about_pilates

In the 1920s, Joseph H. Pilates developed a unique method of whole body conditioning based on the power of connecting the mind, the body and the breath in focused movements. This method of exercise develops strength, flexibility and coordination while improving the body’s postural alignment.

In Pilates, movements originate from the inside out, working the deep musculature of the body to stabilize and support the spine. As a result, the spine elongates while muscles are toned and balanced. The center of the body strengthens, enabling it to support the skeletal system and improving the body’s resistance to injury and fatigue.

Pilates, once known only to dancers and athletes, is now recognized as a leading form of exercise for prevention and rehabilitation of spinal and joint injuries.
