Laura’s journey to Pilates culminated through a path of holistic healing. She suffered from chronic headaches, neck and back pain as a child. After a car accident in 1990, she began receiving chiropractic care. In 2003, she became the office manager at Action Chiropractic Center. An interest in holistic nutrition led her to study through Clayton College of Natural health and Hawthorn University. Nutrition became a key factor in managing her pain. While Chiropractic and holistic nutrition improved her quality of life, it did not relieve all of the chronic pain. In 2018 she completed the Polestar Pilates training and her mentorship at Monarch Pilates. She has followed her interest in neurological repatterining through continuous studies and a comprehensive Motor Control Oov training.
Flaura Coren George trained with Polestar Pilates. She completed her training in 2012 after two years of mentorship at Monarch Pilates. In 2004 Flaura began her career in body work after completing massage training at the Institute of Physco-structural Balancing. She was initially exposed to Pilates while working as a Massage therapist at Artistry in Motion Pilates studio. The detailed nature of Pilates and it’s accessibility to all fitness levels attracted Flaura.
In 2010, Flaura was trained by ToLabor as a certified labor coach. She assists in home and hospital births as well as providing pre and post natal care. The trio of Pilates, Massage, and birth assistant enable Flaura to offer women a unique guidance through their journey to motherhood and beyond. The patience, attention to detail and nurturing care she provides in her Doula work are evident in her teaching style. She embodies the passion for Pilates that first attracted her to the discipline and is thrilled to share the benefits of Pilates with students of all levels and backgrounds.

Padma Borrego is a certified yoga instructor, licensed bodyworker and certified structural integrator.
Her own history with a serious injury has focused her work on self healing and sharing what she learned with others. She has been teaching yoga and movement as well as practicing bodywork for over 20 years. She believes in the body's ability to heal.
She is excited to join Monarch Pilates and it's inspired group of women. As a newer resident to Santa Cruz, she is honored to share what she loves with this community. Her work is inspired by her desire to support the embodied evolution within each of us. Accessing a deeper breath shifts how we move inside our own bodies. Finding ease in less mobile places in our bodies changes movement patterns and builds courage in the whole system. Settling our nervous system and clarifying our deeper needs enables change and fosters healing on all levels. She offers bodywork, yoga, and energy healing to support you on this wild and beautiful journey
Megan began practicing Pilates in 2011 after the birth of her daughter. Like many women, she was determined to renew her strength post-partum. She discovered Pilates brought more than strength, she felt empowered and inspired. She wanted to share this feeling of success with others. In 2016 Megan began teaching Pilates Mat at a local studio. Her desire to learn more about the body and movement led her to Monarch Pilates. At Monarch she learned how much more Pilates had to offer; by properly connecting her core and correcting her movement tendencies, she was able to reduce neck and back pain that had challenged her for years. It opened her eyes to a whole new avenue of teaching. In 2019 she completed the Comprehensive Polestar Pilates. She enjoys combining her love of cardio with her knowledge of how to use the body correctly.
REPAIR Physical Therapist
I completed my Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Miami. Though I had grown up playing a variety of sports, my first real connection to movement as a form of therapy began when I completed Pilates for Rehabilitation training through Polestar Pilates while still a student at UM. After graduating, I began working in a Pilates-based private practice in the Atlanta area. During this time, I worked to obtain my OCS (Orthopedic Certified Specialist), pursued extensive training in pelvic floor physical therapy through the Herman and Wallace Institute, and completed a 200-hour yoga instructor certification. I also began training in a variety of manual therapies (visceral mobilization, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and functional manual therapy) to further boost the outcomes and experience of my movement therapy skills. I am now in the process of furthering my training in Medical Therapeutic Yoga through the Professional Yoga Therapy Institute. As a therapist, I have a passion for the treatment of women's health issues, chronic pain conditions, and utilizing a more holistic form of physical therapy in an effort to help my patients heal both physically and emotionally. I continue to be fascinated by the incredible complexity of the human body, the interactions of our many systems, and all of the amazing ways we can build resiliency and confidence in the way we move and live. In my free time, you can find me thoroughly enjoying the variety f outdoor activities that the area has to offer from beach volleyball, to rock climbing, to Scuba diving, to hiking the redwoods with my Newfoundland, Mabel
EVOLVE Massage Therapist
Julie has been a Certified Massage Therapist since 2001, & both a Reiki (energy healing) & Watsu Practitioner (warm-water meditation/massage) since 2004. She earned a B.A. from Chico State in 2001 before starting on the healing arts path.
A Triple Pisces & Professional Mermaid, Julie is very much a water-baby & this informs her bodywork. Her fluid-like movement is a combination of Hawai’ian Lomilomi (patterned after the ocean) and Deep Tissue, though she also specializes in Prenatal/Postnatal Massage, and more. Julie had the privilege of attending around 250 births as a birth doula before retiring from the on-call life to focus solely on bodywork.
Julie studied extensively at Harbin Hot Springs, among other massage schools, & with Aunty Margaret on the Big Island. She is deeply attuned to energy and breath, and has a sensitive, nurturing presence. Julie is passionate about both water & healing, & is a highly skilled therapist both on land and in the water.
Julie has happily lived in Santa Cruz since 2002, & loves to swim, scuba, snorkel, & hang out with her beloved rescue dog Scuba. She also loves to take redwood & beach walks, ride her beach cruiser, cook, bake, juice, sing, play guitar, write, & see live music & comedy shows. Julie is so grateful to do fun & rewarding work that makes people feel good, & is honored to join Monarch Pilates. She looks forward to working with you.
Sandy K. Novembre is a PMA certified Polestar trained instructor and owner of Monarch Pilates Studio. She has been teaching Pilates since 2003. Her Pilates experience began in 1998 when she injured her back playing collegiate volleyball. She was introduced to Pilates at the Center for Dance and Sports medicine at St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco. She used Pilates to rehabilitate from surgery for a herniated disc. In 2002 she moved to Santa Cruz… to settle somewhere beautiful. She began her Polestar training and mentorship with Sheri Betz at TheraPilates. Through her training, she was able to understand the cause of her injury and change her alignment. As a dancer and athlete, Sandy values the importance of correcting the imbalances in one’s body. She completed the Level two Yamuna Body Rolling Certification, the Cypress Health Institute Massage training and taught for Polestar Education. She uses her hands on skills and understanding of movement to guide her clients into new alignment and strength. In 2006 she married Pete and had two daughters. She found Pilates essential for pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum recovery. In 2017, after 10 years of teaching in her quaint home studio, she opened the new Monarch Pilates location. Sandy has returned to her love of Dance as well as finding a new joy in running and yoga. She feels the strength and alignment discovered in Pilates empowers us to take charge of our physical well being. Teaching others to find this power is a passion and joy she cherishes each day.
